The Gazeebo

A Poet's Place

The Gazeebo: There is a Beauty in the Senses… Yes?

Hello all!

School has officially started and was already assigned to write a poem for my Intro to Poetry class – YIPPEE!! 🙂   My other classes are great as well, including history, business, guitar, and music theory.  What’s nice about this semester is that none of these are general education requirements, thus meaning I actually want to take every single class I’m taking 🙂  It’s a beautiful thing when you have that kind of freedom, wouldn’t you agree?

Oh and by the way, I posted another review on The Examiner today – called “Review:  All-American Poem by Matthew Dickman.”  So, obviously, I wrote a review on All-American Poem, the only book of Matthew Dickman’s that I personally know of.  It is just so beautiful though and I highly suggest that all of those who enjoy poetry in the slightest, to read it.

Anyway, on to the poem.  The assignment was over imagery… thus the reason for the title of this post 🙂  I’m posting the extended version of it because I really like the wholeness of it, versus just what I was allowed to write for the assignment.  Though, for any of those who are interested, the assignment version ended with “swung shut” in the eleventh line.

The Gazeebo: The Coming of a New Year

Hey all!

Have much to talk about, but sadly it is late and I’m tired so, I shall instead post two poems and update in my next post 🙂

The first one is untitled, for now… not totally sure what exactly I want to do with it. Continue reading

The Gazeebo: In Preparation

Hey all!

So, tomorrow, my mom begins her EMT class (I am SO excited for her) and I have work.. according to my boss and coworkers, it’ll probably be pretty busy so that’ll be fun lol.  I’ll basically be running the cash register and maybe making some smoothies and such while my coworkers will be making the coffee drinks due to my lack of coffee knowledge lol.

I’m excited for it, nonetheless, so I’ll be going in with a smile on my face and working through it the best I can 🙂 My boss made a nice comment about me today that I liked – she said that I was doing a good job at it so far and had the initiative needed for the environment.  I have always been this type of person – if I have something to do, I go at it and get it done; if I get it done, I look for something else to do.  But, that’s just the way it is 🙂

I really like my coworkers, and my boss for that matter so that always helps the work environment.. I’m kind of running out of things to say, if you may be wondering lol.  But, today I had a shift that ended mid morning and ended up just hanging around the shop until mid afternoon when I had to go pick my sister up from school.  I basically just spent the entire time talking to a coworker I met yesterday and got to know her a little, so that was pretty awesome! 🙂

Anyway, that’s really about all I have to say today.. on to the poem now.  The writer’s block is still troubling my creative thinking, so here’s a poem titled “La Musique” (“Music”) by French poet, Charles Baudelaire.  I have here both the original version in French, along with a translation to English, done by Roy Campbell.  I acquired both the original version and the translation here.  It offered two other translations as well, but due to my lack of knowing French, I didn’t really know which one to pick; so I picked the one that sounded the prettiest lol. The Gazeebo: Long Time, New Post

Hello all!

I know – a LONG time since I last posted, but I’ve been kind of busy doing the whole job search lately, but it’s all good because I’ve finally scored a job!! 🙂 I’m a cashier / barista at this family owned coffee shop at my college so it’s a great thing – location, family owned, good pay, good hours, great atmosphere, a nice customer base.. I mean really, what else could someone ask for when they’re trying to work their way through college?

Anyway, it was my second day and I learned how to make a coffee shake (for those Starbuck’s fans, it’s basically a frappuccino) so that was pretty fun lol.

Otherwise, life is just pluggin along.. gonna be learning piano this semester and “training my ears” with certain tempos, rhythms, etc. of music.  Not quite sure what else to say about that…

So, that’s about all.. for the poem today, I am going to switch things up a bit just because I’ve been a wee bit obsessed with this song (and also because I’ve had the worst writer’s block lately and haven’t been able to get any ideas or anything in my head to even attempt to write something down lol).  It’s Sara Bareilles’s song called “Let the Rain.”  [Lyrics for this acquired here.] Continue reading
